How To Treat Rosacea
A Skin Inflammatory Condition

What is rosacea?
Rosacea is an inflammatory condition which involves the skin on the face. It is characterised by redness/flushing (as well as small pustules) often on the nose, cheeks, chin and forehead. Rosacea can also affect the eyes causing redness and watering as well as other parts of the body such as the scalp and the back of the ears. If left untreated rosacea can lead to a build - up of tissue on the nose which may need surgical removal.
Who gets rosacea?
Rosacea is most common in adults over the age of 30. But can also occur in teenagers. The difference between rosacea and acne is that there are no blackheads with rosacea.
What causes rosacea?
Scientists are still unsure what exactly causes rosacea. They believe some of the following factors may contribute:
Genetics – more common in people who have a close relative with a history of rosacea
Abnormalities in blood vessels of the face which can cause blushing and redness
A skin mite – researchers believe that there may be a link to a common skin mite called demodex folliculorum
What can trigger rosacea to flare up?
It is not uncommon for the symptoms of rosacea to come and go. Some people believe that a flare up in their rosacea symptoms can occur due to consuming spicy foods or alcohol. We, at Body Essentials, have also noticed flare-ups in clients when experiencing times of high stress. All of these factors will not cause rosacea but they may make the condition worse.
